چکیده

Background: Defects of the tongue has major effect on speech and swallowing. Free flaps serve as an ideal choice for reconstruction but in developing countries, local alternative decreasing morbidity improving functional outcome with easy reproducibility by majority head neck surgeons. Surgical outcomes associated submental (SMF) used medium-sized defects was evaluated well a novel modification technique to safeguard feeding vessel presented. Methods: A total 40 patients cancer who underwent SMF from 2014 2017 minimum 2 year follow up were retrospectively studied. The patient characteristics, tumor stage, nodal status, intraoperative findings, postoperative complications, locoregional recurrence, cosmetic satisfaction noted. Results: Out patients, 27 had pT2, 7 pT3 6 pT4 disease while pN1 pN2 disease. Total flap necrosis, marginal skin paddle necrosis loss observed 0, 5 1 patient(s), respectively. Venous congestion most common complication seen no orocutaneous fistula or mandibular palsy seen. Five recurrence two distant metastases. Functional excellent patients. Conclusions: is reliable convenient that can free tongue.

Reconstruction of Lateral Mandibular Defects with Soft Tissue Loss: The Role of the Submental Flap

Introduction: Mandibular continuity defects after pathologic resections or traumatic events are difficult cases for reconstruction. Defects involving both hard and soft tissue loss are more challenging, because of problems in soft tissue coverage. The role of the submental flap in this regard is presented.   Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study from the archived files of Ghaem Hospi...

Combined Submental-tongue Flap for Reconstruction of Subtotal Traumatic Avulsion of Lower Lip: A Technical Note

Delayed reconstruction of large lower lip defects after traumatic avulsion is a challenge in medically compromised patients with concomitant cheek skin burn. Combination of orthograde submental transposition flap and anteriorly based ventral rectangular myomucosal tongue flap is useful. The former reconstructs the body of the defect, and the latter masks the red lip, resembling vermilion. In th...

Triple-flap technique for reconstruction of large nasal defects.

OBJECTIVE To determine the usefulness of a triple-flap technique for repair of large zone 2 Mohs defects of the nose. METHODS The triple-flap technique was performed on 10 fresh adult cadaver heads that had been injected intravascularly with blue dye. Two distances were measured and recorded: (1) the distance from the most lateral portion of the alar crease to the transverse facial artery; an...

BREAST RECONSTRUCTION USING TRAM FLAP: PROSPECTIVE OUTCOME AND COMPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT Background: The transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flap remains the gold standard for postmastectomy reconstruction either immediate or delayed. However, transfer of TRAM flap can be associated with donor site morbidities and complications in flap. A successful reconstruction consists of careful patient selection, surgical technique and meticulous preoperative plannin...

Reconstruction of pharyngeal defects with a submental island flap after hypopharyngeal carcinoma ablation.

PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the oncologic and functional results of pharyngeal defect reconstruction using a submental island flap in hypopharyngeal cancer patients. METHODS Functional and oncologic results were assessed in 14 patients based on a retrospective chart review. Speech function grading was as follows: 1 = excellent (>70% intelligibility); 2 = good (40-70% intelligibility)...
